Though I do not have a Twitter, I find this very interesting.  I think that if teachers did end up using this the kids who do have a twitter would get more involved in the assignment, but I'm not sure what they'd do with the kids like me would do during this lesson.  Overall,  I think this is a really cool and unique idea that could probably done with other social networking sites aswell.

About Public and Protected Tweets

About Public and Protected Tweets | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

What is the difference between public and protected Tweets?

When you sign up for Twitter, you have the option to keep your Tweets public (the default account setting) or to protect your Tweets. Accounts with protected Tweets require manual approval of each and every person who may view that account's Tweets.

Gust MEES's insight:

Protected tweets are probably the BEST way to use with students in a classroom as they can get the practice with Twitter without that their tweets are public! And they can also see the other person's tweet...
