Wikimedia Commons es una gran plataforma donde se puede tener acceso a más de 20 millones de archivos multimedia de libre uso. Los estudiantes pueden utilizar estos recursos para la búsqueda de imágenes, sonidos y clips de reutilización en sus proyectos multimedia en clase. Mientras que la mayor parte del contenido de Wikimedia Commons está en dominio público o bajo licencias de contenido abierto, los estudiantes deben verificar, no obstante, el estado de derecho de autor de cada imagen tal como lo harían en la obtención de imágenes a partir de otras fuentes. En la línea del acceso abierto al conocimiento, la UNESCO nos ofrecía a comienzos de este año 2014 un nuevo repositorio de publicaciones de acceso libre, no sólo para su consulta sino también para su reutilización, ya que la UNESCO ha adoptado las licencias Creative Commons para la difusión de sus materiales con derechos de autor.
El buscador avanzado nos permite hacer búsquedas por autor, idioma (español, inglés, francés, chino, árabe y ruso), fecha de publicación y tipo de licencia (según los distintos tipo de atributos de las licencias Creative Commons).

“Internet es gratis. Lo que circula por internet es totalmente libre y gratuito. Cualquier artículo o foto que esté en la red la puedo usar como me dé la gana. High quality images don't need to cost an arm & a leg. These sites offer images that are free to use for personal or commercial use! Just be sure to pay attention to copyright licensing for each. Most are CC0, but not all. We've made note of how each of these sites can be browsed (how & if they are searchable). Searchable is great if you know what you're looking for. Royalties in production is a huge deal. They come in different fields such as design, music, and photo. Using images for projects can cost a lot, which is why royalty free images can help out the situation without you having to get into legal troubles. Sources and sites like this are very useful to the community.
