“The goal is that a student can do division problems with speed and accuracy, and can also describe to me exactly what division is,” she said. “I have found that my advanced students can move past division of fractions in the online game, indicating mastery, but when I ask for a verbal description of what it is they are really doing – what is the division of fractions, or when would you use that in the real world? – they have no idea. I think that the rote practice is wasted time if the student does not have that conceptual understanding first. Many online games do not teach that part of math as well.” |

I have just read an interesting report from the Digital Education Advisory Group on education in Australia. I agree with the author of this article, 21st century education consists of computers and all the advanced technologies to help children to learn in a more efficient way. As technology is upgrading and becoming more advanced, so are the teachers. Teachers that teach in the 21st century education system have developed a more effecient and more interesting way to teach the children today. I believe that in the future the education system will once again change and the children of the future will learn much more efficiently. This upgrade in the education will have a positive influence on the children as they benefit from it, they will learn faster and understand what they are taught better. Although there is a big upgrade in the technology and education systems today, it is not truly fool proof. There will always be children who might not understand what is going on in the classroom as the attention span of children is not long no matter the upgrade in technology. |
