@Gwynethjones' Scoop-it on Social Media is a goldmine of great articles on Twitter. Thank you Gwyneth! |
I had facebook. Then I shut the account down. And then I opened it again, mostly because I wanted to be able to communicate with a core group of friends often- sharing photos, jokes and stories quickly. I like to believe that is why my 14 year old son just asked to open an account. My response- sure but you have to friend me. I need to be able to see what is on your account at all times. And then I read this article and bam! I realize there is a way around everything. I just really want my children to use technology safely. I do not want it to be used at inappropriate times nor to interrupt their learning. The minute I see bullying or inappropriate comments or anything of that nature, is the minute I take it all away. I just want my kids and students to be healthy functioning adults. I think part of this is having the flexibility and freedom to express themselves and learn about social media.
