Heutagogy: designing for self-directed learners

Heutagogy: designing for self-directed learners | gpmt | Scoop.it
While acknowledging that the whole concept of self-determination – or ‘Google
learning’ as it has been called, pejoratively, in certain circles – is fraught with the potential for missing the point, being distracted into rabbit warrens or just getting bad information, we would like to emphasise that this is only a potential.

===> Any learning theory is only as good as the way in which it is applied and worked through, and we have seen it produce highly successful results where correctly applied, in the right circumstances. <===

Watch this space for chapter and verse, as we will soon be publishing case studies of several recent programmes that feature high levels of learner self-direction.

Learners are changing, learning is changing – and heutagogy can give important clues about rebalancing the burden of responsibilities and permissions in an always-on, networked, instructorless, post-course world.

This learning theory may be beneficial in certain settings. Anyone applying it already?

It is not possible for a human starts to run without has learnt to walk first. That is why I shared this short (but interesting) infographic in which details about the principles of adult learning are exposed, and whoever is interested in learning more about Andragogy should know before going deeper in the concept .This little introduction presents what adults are (how there are motivated, how they use their experiences); how adults learn (all that they want to learn); and how those principles should be applied (use the information of “what adults are” and “how adults learn” together). I consider that there is no another simple to be introduced to the world of the adult learning for beginners.

Knowles, Holton, and Swanson (2005)described Andragogy as the "art and science to teaching adults to learn. It is often interpreted as the process of engaging adult learners with the structure of learning experience.

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning

Education 3.0 and the Pedagogy (Andragogy, Heutagogy) of Mobile Learning | gpmt | Scoop.it

"The evolution of the web from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and now to Web 3.0 can be used a metaphor of how education should also be evolving, as a movement based on the evolution from Education 1.0 to Education 3.0."

A useful summary table although I'd emphasise that the different 'versions' of education all have their place - v2.0 does not supercede v1.0
Elke Watson's comment, July 19, 2013 4:49 PM
Thank you. I'm not quite ready myself to do away with teaching professionals or brick and mortal education. I value learning in a group context. I found the second summary table more useful (pedagogy, andragogy, heutagogy)

We could talk of the evolution from Education 2.0 to education 3.0 after carrying an evaluation on the impact of the Web 2.0 in education
