Does digital education research have an integrity problem? — | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Digital education is not just training in digital literacy | CCCB LAB

Digital education is not just training in digital literacy | CCCB LAB | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

For some time the debate on digital technologies has been present in the educational environment. However, the true challenge is not whether to use technology or not, but to rethink education with it. Today’s technologies define a new learning environment that modifies our relationship with contents, requires new forms of teaching-learning, and blurs the boundaries between classroom and home, formal and informal education. In this sense, it it not only a case of developing a set of skills and abilities of a technical nature, but a combination of behaviours, specialised and technical knowledge, working habits, arrangements and critical thinking. Talking today about digital education is, therefore, something more than just talking about training in digital literacy.

Digital Education has now run 21 of our popular rapid learning design workshops. ABC uses an effective and engaging paper card-based method in a 90 minute hands-on workshop. It is based on research from the JISC and UCL IoE and over the last year has helped 70 module and course teams design and sequence engaging learning activities. It has proved particularly useful for new programmes or those changing to an online or more blended format.

To find out if ABC is for you this short video captured one of our workshops earlier this year.

Broadening access to digital education: is there another way?

Broadening access to digital education: is there another way? | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

A post by Stuart Allan, Director of Online Learning, Edinburgh Business School (Heriot-Watt University), @OpenPlanStuart

Reports of ‘the death of the VLE’ have been circulating for long enough for it to become a kitsch subject in ALT circles. But the institutional VLE – whether as a monolithic system or a central column into which other technologies are integrated – remains a ubiquitous presence in most universities.

'It's a tough transition': why universities must plan for generation alpha | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
If a university doesn’t have enough bandwidth, plugs or charging stations, or doesn’t have enough staff who are using technology, you can’t wake up and suddenly fix all that when the alpha generation arrives. You have to plan and think through what the next generation will look like.

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning

Preparing for the digital university: a review of the history and current state of distance, blended, and online learning | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The sheer scale of numbers of students led to bold proclamations of education disruption and a sector on the verge of systemic change. However, from the perspective of 2015, these statements appear increasingly erroneous as moocs have proven to be simply an additional learning opportunity instead of a direct challenge to higher education itself. Many of the issues confronting early mooc development and offerings could have been reduced if greater consideration was given to research literature in learning sciences and technology enabled learning.
