The world is changing quickly, and education systems must either adapt or change completely to keep up. Luckily, there are many viable solutions to this issue. Several applications are available right now for both teachers and students to get acquainted with.
To keep things both structured and concise, we have come up with a list of 12 of the best digital and mobile learning resources that are sure to make a positive difference in your schooling environment and keep your students engaged and invigorated.
Below is a chart we have been working on during the last few weeks. It features a number of key websites and online resources arranged into different categories. We did not cover all school subjects but we will be adding more resources to the list in the future. Our purpose is to provide teachers and educators (and students) with a repository of EdTech websites that can potentially help them with the teaching of their content areas. The great thing about this work is that it is curated by teachers for teachers.
A lot has changed since MIT first announced that it would be making its course materials freely available online. Back in 2001, the idea that university-level content could be accessed at no cost by users anywhere in the world was virtually unheard of, and the MIT OpenCourseWare initiative was a major driver in the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement.
Here at Techboomers, we are always advocating for adult online learning. We believe it is never too late to start learning new skills, especially when it comes to online education. Because of modern technology, it’s entirely possible to learn about almost any topic online. You can work at your own pace, from the comfort of your own home, and keep working on gaining the skills you want to acquire to help you achieve goals in your life.

Many of us read blogs about learning and discuss the learning process with our colleagues, but few of us actually bother keeping up with the latest science. Maybe it’s because, if we do manage to identify a source or two, we are immediately turned off by all the dense scientific jargon. Or maybe it’s not always clear which resources provide information specifically on learning and not just education in general.

Yesterday the World Bank hosted a great discussion related to strategies for tackling the high cost and low availability of textbooks, with a specific focus on needs and contexts across Sub-Saharan Aftrica. This event served as the Washington, DC launch for a World Bank publication which debuted last year at an event in Cote d'Ivoire, Getting Textbooks to Every Child in Sub-Saharan Africa: Strategies for Addressing the High Cost and Low Availability Problem. (Those interested in the topic of 'textbooks in Africa' more generally may also wish to have a look at a companion book published by the World Bank in 2015, Where Have All the Textbooks Gone? Toward Sustainable Provision of Teaching and Learning Materials in Sub-Saharan Africa.) FindLectures.com is a curated search engine for quality online lectures, interviews, documentaries, and historically significant speeches.
The video list can be navigated with a deep topic taxonomy, which allows the discovery of interesting niche topics.
Videos are ranked using over a dozen quality measures, so that you can spend time learning, not looking.
Ranking and inclusion are affected by topic variety and novelty, length, audio quality, and speaker presentation style.
Other factors include the speaker having a unique background and material being the appropriate difficulty level for being a standalone content aimed at an educated audience.
