The current pandemic and the havoc it wrecked upon our lives have radically transformed the way we teach and learn. Hybrid  (flipped) learning and remote and distance teaching have become the norm. 10 Practical Approaches to Teaching | Faculty Focus

10 Practical Approaches to Teaching | Faculty Focus | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Students from different walks of life converge in a classroom for learning. They have different capabilities and personalities, adding to the diversity that comes with learning institutions. As such, if you want to be an effective teacher, you need to formulate and implement creative and innovative strategies that are practical and meet the needs of students. This applies to all teachers despite the duration they have been teaching. However, it can be difficult to know what works best with your students and what won’t work.

The Ten Characteristics of Teachers Who Successfully (Teach) and Use EdTech

The Ten Characteristics of Teachers Who Successfully (Teach) and Use EdTech | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Technology is changing the landscape of teaching and learning. Textbooks are being phased out, makerspaces are becoming increasingly common, and communication between teachers and students has never been easier or more abundant. Technology is unavoidable, and while some teachers may still feel hesitant about the changes that are coming fast and furiously in the wake of these advancements, most teachers want to embrace the potential. Teachers that are successfully integrating educational technology in their classrooms are beacons for their peers – and there is much they can teach us.

Five ideas to improve teacher quality - The Hechinger Report | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Low-performing schools struggle to attract and retain good teachers. This June, in an effort to give more students access to excellent teachers, the United States Department of Education required states to submit “educator equity plans,” meant to identify the root causes of why poor and minority kids receive more inexperienced teachers and fix the problem. Earlier this month, plans from 16 states were approved and while these plans vary in specifics, many of the states focused on reforming teacher preparation as the key first step to improve quality.

Five Peaceful Steps To Delivering Critical Feedback

Five Peaceful Steps To Delivering Critical Feedback | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

I know of something even more difficult and frightful and face-flushed-all-red than getting feedback.

Giving it.

In my role as assistant principal, I give a lot of feedback.  I give it to students; I give it to staff; I provide it to parents when appropriate.  I give it when requested and formal (e.g., teacher evaluation) and when it is not solicited, or expected, or necessarily wanted.  So why is it so difficult?  After all, isn't the "giver" of feedback the one in the driver's seat, the one in the "active" (command) position, while the recipient plays the passive role, listening (maybe) and absorbing (possibly) your wisdom?

Sue Gaardboe's curator insight, September 29, 2014 7:04 PM

Teaching and learning. For decades, we focused almost exclusively on the teaching side of things. More recently, we’ve been paying attention to learning, and that’s a good thing. However, we shouldn’t be thinking about one without the other—they’re both important and inseparably linked.

The move to blended learning can be threatening, even for good teachers. Being aware of their possible concerns is vital for those leading change in organizations.
