Open Textbooks For Blended Librarians – Blended Librarian

Open Textbooks For Blended Librarians – Blended Librarian | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
At the Blended Librarians Online Learning Community we have delved somewhat infrequently into the world of Open Educational Resources (OER) and what we can do to promote their use to our faculty. In the past John and I have engaged the community in conversations about digital learning objects (what many folks now point to as OER in repositories such as MERLOT II). In addition we have engaged in discussions about OER, such as when we invited Quill West to  be our guest.

Blended Learning That Works by Diane Senffner and Leslie Kepler | Helge Scherlund's eLearning News

Blended Learning That Works by Diane Senffner and Leslie Kepler | Helge Scherlund's eLearning News | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Learning is not one size fits all. Blended learning empowers us to give employees access to training in a useable format when they need it, often from wherever they are able to access it.

Shelly Reckow VanVoorst's curator insight, October 25, 2015 11:13 AM

I scooped this article because it actually has a very cool and useful PDF file that is attached to it (click under the photo of the book cover).  This PDF file is good resource for blended learning, especially for a teacher that has not implemented yet in their classroom but they are considering this approach to education. The link only provides the first three pages of the PDF file, and the remainder of the article is available for purchase.  However, this snippet is still a good starter bit of information, and for those that are truly looking for a resource, this might be the one to consider.  I hope that teachers considering a blending learning style will reference this article and perhaps look up more information about it and what others thought of the information before purchasing the final product.

When it comes to the ‘Create’ part of the 7 Cs of Learning Design most course creators will create original content for the core of their course. However, it can be beneficial to incorporate ready made content from other sources rather than constantly reinventing the wheel.

Provided you respect any attached copyright and distribution restrictions, many educators are happy for their content to be shared to a broader audience.

CommonLit: An Online Library of Free Texts | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
We want our students to be able to read challenging texts. That’s a given. We want them to learn to analyze, paraphrase, and infer. We want them to support their points with textual evidence. And we have a pretty good idea of how to teach them to do these things.

The Information Literacy User’s Guide: An Open, Online Textbook | OER Commons

Author(s): Trudi Jacobson, Greg Bobish, Deborah Bernnard, Daryl Bullis, Jenna Hecker, Irina Holden, Allison Hosier and Tor Loney

Good researchers have a host of tools at their disposal that make navigating today’s complex information ecosystem much more manageable. Gaining the knowledge, abilities, and self-reflection necessary to be a good researcher helps not only in academic settings, but is invaluable in any career, and throughout one’s life. The Information Literacy User’s Guide will start you on this route to success. The Information Literacy User’s Guide is based on two current models in information literacy: The 2011 version of The Seven Pillars Model, developed by the Society of College, National and University Libraries in the United Kingdom and the conception of information literacy as a metaliteracy, a model developed by one of this book’s authors in conjunction with Thomas Mackey, Dean of the Center for Distance Learning at SUNY Empire State College. These core foundations ensure that the material will be relevant to today’s students.

Improving Students' Web Use and Information Literacy free download

As a result of recent learning and teaching developments, teachers are being trained to use ICT to develop more innovative teaching methods, and students are invariably required to use electronic information resources as part of their assignments. Networked internet access is now the norm in both primary and secondary schools, available not only in the school library but in computer suites and classrooms. Teachers and school librarians are increasingly aware that information literacy is a key skill needed by today's students, who are tomorrow's workers within the knowledge economy. The need for educators to understand how to help students to become effective information users is paramount. This book offers teachers and school librarians the means to exploit the internet effectively both as a learning and a teaching resource; in particular to hone their skills in accessing the most relevant parts of the internet to provide suitable information sources to aid students' learning. It offers valuable insights into information literacy and provides helpful examples of the most effective ways of teaching information skills. The book is a vital resource for all teachers and school librarians, and is relevant in all areas of the world. It is equally of use to head teachers and to professional educators and managers up to further education level. It should be on reading lists of all education institutions offering teacher training courses.
