3 Ways Responsive Leaders Learn to Lead Themselves

3 Ways Responsive Leaders Learn to Lead Themselves | Training and Assessment Innovation | Scoop.it

While many leaders rely on proven past methods (often learned in B-school), others are taking new approaches that help them transcend what they already know. These fresh methods help them handle the day-to-day, while becoming responsive to other things that matter.

One of these “new” methods is a coaching approach that has been used with individuals, now making its way into the C-suite.

“The ‘coach approach’ asks leaders to define who they want to be at this moment and in the future,” says Jennifer Antolak, president of Learning Journeys, a life coaching academy. “And it’s about helping others understand that we support their choices.”

How to Brainstorm With Introverts

How to Brainstorm With Introverts | Training and Assessment Innovation | Scoop.it

If you're one of those people who perks up at the thought of a brainstorming session, it can be hard to empathize with those whose hearts sink as soon as they receive the meeting invite.

In particular, your more reserved employees who don't enjoy jostling for the spotlight are less likely to really want to partake. But not to worry, says editor Laura McClure in her recent TED blog post. You can make few simple modifications to your meetings, hopefully making them less painful for your more introverted team members. When everyone is more comfortable, you get to hear more ideas.

How To Re-Discover Your Motivation

How To Re-Discover Your Motivation | Training and Assessment Innovation | Scoop.it

Companies spend a lot of time and money trying to motivate their employees.

But when was the last time a mug with your company’s logo or a coffee shop gift card made you truly excited? Real motivation doesn’t come from external rewards--it comes from making some shifts in how you think about your situation, says San Diego, California-based personal empowerment expert Susan Fowler.

“Give a whale a fish and it’ll jump as high as you want. Give a pigeon a pellet and it’ll turn 360 degrees. That whole animal behavior theory is what the workplace is built on. We’ve got to get away from that because we’re not pigeons and we’re not whales,” she says.
