Canada. Government of Canada helps to create more than 25,000 apprenticeship positions across Canada

Over the next two years, first-year apprentices in eligible Red Seal trades will get the hands-on experience and training they require to progress toward becoming certified in the Red Seal trades as a result of connecting with opportunities at these employers. The organizations that are being funded under the Apprenticeship Service will distribute financial incentives to SMEs, and provide additional supports, such as help navigating the apprenticeship system, onboarding apprentices, and creating welcoming and inclusive workplaces. To help marginalized Canadians, the incentives are doubled for SMEs who hire from equity-deserving groups, such as women, persons with disabilities, Indigenous people and racialized people.  The Government’s investment today will create more than 25,000 new apprenticeship positions across Canada.

Canada. A Skills Budget?

Canada. A Skills Budget? | Vocational education and training - VET | Scoop.it
Traditionally, the last budget before an election is packed full of goodies thereby forming the basis of the party’s election platform.  This time last year, it sure looked like pharmacare was going to be the issue they were going to run on. However, the Liberals have gone fairly quiet on this lately (whether because of cost or because they no longer think they have enough support in the provinces to make it happen is hard to tell, though I’d bet the latter).  Instead, beyond pretty much anyone’s expectation, the Liberals seem to be positioning the coming budget as a “skills budget”.

Canada. A stronger and more resilient Canada. 2020 Speech from the Throne

Canada. A stronger and more resilient Canada. 2020 Speech from the Throne | Vocational education and training - VET | Scoop.it

People losing their jobs is perhaps the clearest consequence of the global economic shock that Canadians – like those in other countries – have faced.

Canadians need good jobs they can rely on.

To help make that happen, the Government will launch a campaign to create over one million jobs, restoring employment to previous levels. This will be done by using a range of tools, including direct investments in the social sector and infrastructure, immediate training to quickly skill up workers, and incentives for employers to hire and retain workers.

One way the Government will create these jobs is by extending the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy right through to next summer. The Government will work with businesses and labour to ensure the program meets the needs of the health and economic situation as it evolves.

Another example of how the Government will create jobs is by significantly scaling up the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, to provide more paid work experiences next year for young Canadians.
