Teaching Strategies to Help Students Retain Information

Teaching Strategies to Help Students Retain Information | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
As teachers, we are always looking for fresh teaching strategies that allow our students to retain and process the information that we teach them. Sometimes we tell our students to reread something in hopes that it will help them remember it better. Other times we encourage them to practice, practice, practice because we have all heard the saying “Practice makes perfect.” But we all know that in reality, some things just go in one ear and out the other. In fact, research has shown that if we don’t do anything with the new information that we learn within one hour of learning it, we will have forgotten about 50 percent of it.

Learning analytics: what types of product are available? | Learning Innovation

Learning analytics: what types of product are available? | Learning Innovation | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

Every educational institution wants its learners to reach their full potential.  Learning analytics can help us to measure and predict student success using data relating to engagement, grades, retention, graduation and employability.  But what products are out there to enable institutions to improve on the indicators of success, and to help visualise and analyse the increasing amounts of data being collected around our students? How well do the various tools facilitate interventions with learners and help us to monitor the effectiveness of those interventions?

Teaching Adult Students with Considerable Professional Expertise

Teaching Adult Students with Considerable Professional Expertise | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Trends toward increased enrollment of non-traditional students are expected to continue (Stringer, 2015). Discussions about nontraditional college students often highlight some of the challenges our adult students face, such as balancing work, family, and school commitments, overcoming previous academic patterns that no longer serve them, and adapting to new approaches to learning (such as online classes.) The flip side, though, is that many non-traditional students bring a wealth of personal and professional experience to their pursuit of a new degree, which serves to the benefit their academic cohort (Stringer, 2015).

Your Top 10 Genius Hour Questions Answered

Your Top 10 Genius Hour Questions Answered | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
We hear all the time about how we need to give students more choice. About how we should be helping them discover their passions, how we need more student-directed, inquiry-based learning in the classroom. But all of that can feel like a load of abstract, pie-in-the-sky hooey without practical instructions for how to actually do it. We need a structure, a format, a plan for delivering this kind of experience.

Designing a Future of Digital Engagement | EDUCAUSE.edu

Designing a Future of Digital Engagement | EDUCAUSE.edu | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it

The future of higher education is more than a digital replica of yesterday’s campus or even today’s classroom. The building blocks of our future higher education institutions are physical and virtual; they are human and technological. By combining these capabilities—the best of both the traditional (the campus) and the digital (computing), we can build colleges and universities that are designed to engage.” With the first article in this issue of EDUCAUSE Review, I introduce the theme of digital engagement.

Make Your eLearning Content Addictive - eLearning Industry

Make Your eLearning Content Addictive - eLearning Industry | Education 2.0 & 3.0 | Scoop.it
Make learners crave your eLearning content by using these four dopamine triggers to make your eLearning content addictive.

We’re all on crack.

No, we’re all not walking around smoking cocaine. But we are all dopamine junkies and our modern-day “crack” is information. Specifically: digital information.

Don’t believe me? When was the last time you went to do a quick Google search on a particular topic and an hour later found yourself reading about something completely different from the original subject matter of your search because you kept linking to different sites? Or, you planned to just check in on Facebook for a few minutes before bed and two hours later you were finally powering down your computer? Or, you just couldn’t stop scanning your Twitter feed?

I thought so.
